FUN-LAND

Fun-Land is a multi-purpose gym that provides gymnastic experience for users (11 – 13-year-old children) to get “fit” in both physical and mental wellness. The design of the space allows users to get involved in various activities under a nature-inspired environment that demonstrates the power of nature and through the connection between indoor and outdoor space. The environment will help users to build self-confidence, and social skills to navigate through their adult life.

design concept

501 ANN ST, FORTITUDE VALLEY QLD 4006

The central idea of the interior design stemmed from shadows cast by trees. One of the most prominent features of the interior design for this fitness centre is the difference in heights of ceilings mimicking the irregularity of tree canopy cover observed in outdoor natural settings. The effect delivers a sense of comforting security through the regulation of sunlight and temperature. By reconnecting children to the natural environment, it improves the perception of security in children towards the environment and encourages them to be more playful under the nurturing power of the natural environment.

With the use of nature-inspired elements, different interior space components are orchestrated within the fitness centre to reinforce children’s learning experience through different activities. The physical context of the built environment aims to promote positive social experience, and thus develop their all-round physical and mental well-being.

Direct exposure to the natural environment is crucial for the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of children. The built environment of this children fitness centre will also make use of features derived from the biophilic design concept which consists of elements that are inspired by features found in the natural environment e.g. organic shapes, fractal patterns, natural patterns and forms and springy flooring.

The ground level consists of general services including gym, green space, meditation room, and multi-purpose room. The interior design of the ground level features nature-inspired elements and creative effects of lighting layout to give users a sense of security.
