Interior
Originally an industrial shed in Fortitude Valley where metal works and pickled fruits where manufactured. At Plantister, activity based spaces tackle the societal issue of depression in young adult males. The ethos of rebuilding trust, growing a new façade and repairing human nature is activated organically here.
Situated over two levels the concept is separated into a mezzanine and ground floor that are connected by an atrium and central void. The cross beams provide structure to the open planned layout and the depth of the height is accentuated by the saw tooth roof.
Reception is entered from street level and is the gateway between the activity spaces. Planted, the bespoke retail is accessed via a side corridor and Pruned, the plant care zone via a stairwell and lift.
Planted is a bespoke retail space selling high end indoor plants. The ceiling of the space has circular apertures to allow for natural ventilation and daylight. Added to the enjoyment of the space is a number of hanging indoor plants that grow through these circles to floor level giving texture to the space and softening the acoustics from the cement flooring.
The outdoor balcony is functional with 2 sinks and a rain water tank to capture water to rehydrate plants. It is an area of reflection, planting and pruning.
The Pickled cafe is a simplified coffee shop that is self service. The food is basic but the coffee is good. A social zone and discussion point accessed from the mezzanine level.
To pursue upcycled endeavours, the Polished activity space is versatile with task desks that can be adapted and are mobile. The modular partitions are multi-functional and practical. With opportunities for social interaction and learning new skills.
